The song described in words

‘Early in the Mourning’ is a sad, downtempo, emo rap song, that people who are dealing with grief and the loss of loved ones could greatly embody with. The atmospheric sounding slow-paced rap beat, inspired by hip-hop, trap and r&b music, is complemented with melodic and lyrical rap vocals. This track has been written, performed and produced by music producer and beatmaker Cruzu, and is now available on all major music streaming platforms.

Tribute to younger brother

This song comes from a personal point of view and is a tribute to Cruzu’s younger brother, Maikel Dion Kruis, who unexpectedly lost his life at the age of 19. It has been created during a solo beatmaking session late at night, or in other words, early in the morning. On one side the song is about his brother not knowing he wouldn’t wake up the next day, and on the other side, it’s about the hard moments of sadness when you’re all alone and nobody sees you which often is late at night or early in the morning. The title ‘Early in the Mourning’ is derived from the stage of grief where mourning is an intense daily struggle.

“For the past six years since my brother died, I’ve had this dominating feeling of sadness which troubled me a lot. Just recently I managed to move my focus from the missing and sorrow to being thankful and cherishing the memories I do have. It feels like the sun breaking through dark clouds, which I couldn’t imagine earlier. I hope this song helps people going through a similar situation and empowers them to keep going. At a certain point, you will find a way to rise from it.” – Cruzu

Music video storytelling

The single ‘Early in the Morning’ drops simultaneously with its music video directed by Lars van der Put and Peter Baerveldt as D.O.P. to support the message. It shows a person in grief and mourning, and describes the metaphor that losing someone you love creates a hole in your world that cannot be filled, but you have to keep going in order to learn to walk around it.

Cruzu is a music producer and beatmaker, who started publishing official tracks in 2019 in collaboration with vocal artists from the United States, the United Kingdom, Malaysia, Cameroon, and more, in the genres hip-hop, rap, trap, r&b, and afro trap. His releases are listened by people from over 100 countries which resulted in more than 130.000 streams so far.

Lyrics

They will never see that
Early in the morning
They will never see that
Early in the morning
in the mourning

They will never see that
Early in the morning
They will never see that
Early in the morning
in the mourning

They don’t understand me
I’m feeling so lonely
Wishing that you hear me
‘cus we haven’t spoken
in the open

And that’s just how I’m feeling
I will never get no healing
Don’t know how I’m supposed to be dealing
Got me losing all my hair like Krillin

I don’t wanna think about killing
But honestly sh*t got me tripping and
sometimes I’m lost for a minute but
I know that you would kill me for that

Figure of speech, ‘cus you can’t
Right now ‘till the end
I won’t see you again
Right now ‘till the end
I won’t see you again

They will never see that
Early in the morning
Early in the mourning
They will never see that
Early in the morning
in the mourning

They will never see that
Early in the morning
Early in the mourning
They will never see that
Early in the morning
in the mourning
